France and Poland squared off in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup. Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny made a good save in the 12th minute to deny Kylian Mbappe. Poland got their best chance of the opening period in the 38th minute, but Robert Lewandowski's header was well saved by Hugo Lloris.

France took the lead seven minutes after the interval, with Olivier Giroud heading home to become France's all-time men's goalscorer.
